An owner who loved their dog is hoping a New York shelter is able to find the pup a good home after they hit a rough patch in life.

Akira has known love and what it’s like to have a warm home her entire life, so the decision to bring her to Lollypop Farm, a humane society in the Greater Rochester area, wasn’t taken lightly.

“4-year-old Akira’s previous caretaker was beyond heartbroken when they found themselves experiencing homelessness and had to make the decision to bring her to Lollypop Farm,” the shelter said in a Feb. 10 Facebook post.

“Having her since a puppy, this was not an easy decision to make, and they were devastated but told us that they found comfort in knowing that she would be well taken care of until she found a new, loving home.”

Her owner didn’t want her to have to wait to receive the same love she had always known, so they did something to speed up the process. They provided photos of Akira and the following description:

Well, she’s a sweet girl. I used to get home from work and she waited for me sitting on the couch with my wife and as soon as I entered she came to me to play. She’s super affectionate and has a lot of energy. She also loved going out for a walk and when it was snowing playing in the snow. She loves to eat her cookies and bacon. There are so many beautiful things that I can say about her. She is a very good and affectionate girl. It was really a very difficult decision and it still hurts me but I know that you are treating her well and that gives me some peace of mind.”

The shelter — and her affectionate former owner — is hoping the letter will help bring in the sort of people who deserve Akira.
