Disney star gets shot in the face during husband’s birthday trip
Christy Carlson Romano, best known for her work on Disney’s “Even Stevens,” shared a terrifying story in a Feb. 8 Instagram video.
The video showed her injuries, revealing she was shot in the face and multiple fragments remain embedded in her skull.
“So I got shot in the eye,” Romano said in the video. “It was not fun. I am safe.”
As she pointed out where the bullet and the fragments landed in her face, Romano said she is very “grateful” to first responders who aided in her recovery.
“I get to say I was shot in the face and lived to tell the tale,” Romano continued, encouraging others to be “grateful for every day.”
In the caption, Romano said, “yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present.”
“There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face. Brendan Rooney immediately sprung into action, assessed me, and rushed me to the hospital,” she continued.
“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” Romano said of her injuries.
“Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me,” Romano said, adding that the gunshot wound hasn’t yet affected her vision.
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much.”
“I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant,” she concluded her statement.
Fans and friends in the comments quickly shared their prayers for the actress.
“Christy I am SO thankful you are okay. Praying for your recovery!!!” one comment read.
