A woman fought off a masked man after waking to find him inside her bedroom, Connecticut police say.

The woman called 911 at about 2 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, and said she woke to find a masked man inside her bedroom, the Redding Police Department said in a news release shared on Facebook.

After the woman fought off the man, he fled the home, police said.

Upon arriving, officers confirmed the woman was unharmed and searched the area, according to police.

The officers found an abandoned car nearby, police said, adding they confirmed it belonged to the suspect.

Shortly after, officers found the suspect, identified as Troi Barnes, of Ansonia, two homes away and took him into custody, police said.

The 29-year-old was arrested on multiple charges, including home invasion, burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal mischief and attempted sexual assault, according to police.

Barnes, who is being held on $1 million bail, was scheduled to appear in court Jan. 31, police said.

Redding is about a 60-mile drive southwest from Hartford.
