Chrissy Teigen is saying goodbye to a friend who has been there for her family since she and singer John Legend first said, “I do.”

On Jan. 25, Teigen took to Instagram to share photos of her beloved Penny, “our beautiful little tripod queen.”

Penny was one of her family’s dogs.

Teigen said Penny “passed on peacefully in her sleep” on Saturday.

“Born the same day John and I got married, 11 years ago, she was there for us for every baby, every loss, every joy,” Teigen continued. “She loved nothing more than being loved, having her nub rubbed and destroying any ball she could get her paw on, even till her last weeks.”

Penny was an integral part of the their family.

“Oh penny. We were so beyond lucky to have you,” Teigen added. “Say hi to Puddy and Pippa for us. You are all together again.”

In the comments, Legend shared a few words of his own about Penny. “I loved this girl. We will miss you, Penny.”

Teigen also shared a message to other dog owners.

“Never forget that while every pup is just a few chapters in your long life, for them you are their entire book, their entire lives.”

In January 2022, Teigen shared the story of how they came to adopt Penny all those years ago.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever really shared the story of us getting this 3-legged dream, but many years ago, someone tagged me in a photo of her to amplify her adoption, (she was pulled from a horribly abusive situation, hence the leg and tail broken in many diff places,” Teigen explained.

“And I selfishly took her for myself! I remember the rescue lady who fostered her not loving the idea of a touring musician having her, as she definitely thought all musicians were wild and crazy party people,” Teigen continued.

“She made John’s tour bus stop in her town so she could see for herself how truly boring we are lol. Anyhoo, we are grateful to her (I believe the rescue was called Noah’s Ark!) and for our lucky penny!”

Fans and friends shared their condolences in the comment section.

“Oh Penny. I absolutely hate to hear this,” fellow model Brooklyn Decker wrote. “She left her mark. Sending you all so much love.”

“Nooooooooo,” Katie Couric added.

“I’m very sorry for your immense loss. Fly high Penny, and frolic in those rainbow fields in joy and happiness,” another comment read.
