A bald eagle dad had his first glimpse of a newly laid egg in his Southern California nest.

The heartwarming moment was caught on the eagle camera after 8 a.m. Jan. 23, the Friends of Big Bear Valley shared in a Facebook post.

Jackie laid the egg the day before, but Shadow didn’t make a visit, McClatchy News reported.

When he showed up the next day, “he stared at it a bit, like he couldn’t really believe that it was here already,” the nonprofit said in the post.

A video of the moment shows him cautiously approach the egg.

He then bends down toward the egg and lowers his beak to it.

Shadow stays in the nest with the egg for several minutes before flying out.

“A proud dad I am sure! And we know he is a good daddy and very experienced by now!” one person commented.

“Shadow is such a good life partner!!!” another person wrote.

Since Jackie laid her first egg, the two eagles have taken turns incubating it.

Shadow spent more than four hours at the nest on Jan. 23.

Jackie and Shadow can be watched on the nonprofit’s live eagle camera.

Big Bear is about a 95-mile drive northeast from Los Angeles.
