Unsuspecting cab driver acts as getaway driver for accused bank robber, MA reports say
A taxi driver in Massachusetts unsuspectingly became a getaway driver for a bank robbery suspect, local outlets reported.
Officers responded to a call at about 12:45 p.m. Jan. 22 regarding a bank robbery at the East Cambridge Savings Bank, a spokesperson for the Somerville Police Department told McClatchy News in a Jan. 23 email.
The accused robber asked Dennis Ferrante, the cab driver, if they could make a pit stop at the bank, Ferrante told WHDH.
After about five minutes at the bank, the man came back and told Ferrante to drive away, he said to WCVB.
Ferrante told WHDH the man kept repeating “my wife is going to kill me,” but he had never seen the man before.
“If I knew, I would’ve been petrified,” Ferrante told the outlet.
McClatchy News reached out to the East Cambridge Savings Bank Jan. 23 but did not receive an immediate response. According to WCVB, the bank closed for the rest of the day following the incident.
Police said the man was arrested that day and was arraigned in court Jan. 23.
His name and charges have not been made public as of Jan. 23.
Somerville is about a 5-mile drive northwest from Boston.
