Beloved eagle mom lays first egg of season in CA. See Jackie’s much-anticipated moment
The moment is finally here.
Beloved bald eagle Jackie laid her first egg of the 2025 season, and the highly anticipated moment was caught on camera.
Jackie was seen after 4 p.m. on Jan. 22 in her nest in Big Bear, which is in Southern California, the Friends of Big Bear Valley said in a Facebook post.
Her feathers began to fluff up, and she started making a “teakettling” noise, the nonprofit said.
“As she pushes the egg through her body, she makes small, squeaky sounds, similar to a tea kettle when it steams,” the nonprofit said in the post.
Then out came a bright white egg.
She was then seen moving sticks and fluff around the nest before gently lowering on her egg, the video shows.
This year, viewers are hopeful an egg will successfully hatch after the eagles have gone two years without raising a chick.
Jackie and Shadow had a clutch of three eggs last year, and none hatched, McClatchy News reported.
She laid two eggs in 2023, and those didn’t hatch either.
But viewers aren’t ready to give up on Jackie and Shadow.
“Yay. 2025 is the year!!! I almost feel like an egg-laying party!! Positive vibes and prayers this year is a success and they both stay safe,” one person commented on Facebook.
“Fingers crossed, we are rooting for you Jackie and Shadow,” another person wrote.
“Oh Jackie needs a hatchling this year. Praying to God she gets her baby. It’s been a long road for her,” someone said.
Jackie and Shadow can be watched on the nonprofit’s live eagle camera.
Big Bear is about a 95-mile drive northeast from Los Angeles.
