Powerball player wins big prize in Georgia. Where was the lucky ticket sold?
A Georgia lottery player was one number shy of a massive Powerball jackpot — but still walked away a winner.
Someone won $50,000 after matching four numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Monday, Jan. 6, narrowly missing a grand prize worth $220 million, according to the Georgia Lottery.
The winning ticket was sold at a QuickTrip in Alpharetta, about a 30-mile drive northeast from downtown Atlanta, lottery officials said.
It comes days after a Marietta resident scored a $100,000 win, doubling their original prize after spending an extra $1 on the Power Play multiplier.
The winning numbers in the Jan. 6 drawing were 17, 34, 46, 66, 67 and red Powerball 14, according to the lottery game’s website. The Power Play option was 2x.
There were no $1 million or $2 million winners, results show. No one hit the jackpot either, pushing the grand prize to an estimated $240 million.
Winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes and are encouraged to sign the backs of their tickets, the Georgia Lottery said.
The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday, Jan. 8.
