Police investigating DUI report at 7-Eleven find woman’s body in car, Utah cops say
Police investigating a DUI in Utah ended up arresting a man on suspicion of murder after they found a body in the back of his vehicle, officials said.
Officers went to a 7-Eleven in Bluffdale, which is about a 23-mile drive southwest from Salt Lake City, for a DUI investigation, a probable cause affidavit said.
“While contacting the driver” at a little after midnight on Dec. 31, they spotted the woman’s body, police said. The woman “had significant injuries and trauma” consistent with homicide, according to police.
The 40-year-old driver told police in an interview that he and the woman were “intimate partners” and lived together, police said. He said he “was in a previous argument with the (woman)“ and “it was over with their relationship,” according to police.
“When asked by officers if the victim had any injuries (he) stated physical trauma but did not elaborate any further,” police said. And “when asked how the victim got into the vehicle (he) said he put her into the vehicle.”
McClatchy News is not identifying the man because he has not yet been formally charged.
Meanwhile, the woman’s family has identified her as Summer Tatiana Roney, according to news reports.
Roney “was a vibrant, kind, and loving soul who touched the lives of everyone she met. She was deeply loved by her friends, family, and coworkers, who will always remember her infectious personality and the joy she brought into their lives,” her family said in a statement, according to KTVX.
Roney’s sister, Michelle Tischner, told KSL TV that Roney was a vulnerable adult. She and the man met about four years ago and were estranged, Tischner told the outlet.
