Woman walking dog at nature preserve is found dead in lake on Christmas, MA cops say
Police in Massachusetts are investigating after a missing woman was found dead in a lake on Christmas.
Owen Kasozi, 30, was last seen walking into the J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve in Beverly on Dec. 24, according to a news release from the office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker.
Police believe Kasozi may have been at the preserve walking her dog in a popular dog-walking area.
When she didn’t return, multiple law enforcement agencies and authorities began to search for her.
Kasozi’s dog was found Christmas Eve night without her, officials said.
Then, on Dec. 25, Kasozi was found dead in Wenham Lake, according to officials.
Authorities believe she may have fallen into the freezing lake and wasn’t able to get out.
“Owen was a vibrant soul who brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. Her passion for life was infectious, and she had a unique ability to make those around her feel valued and loved,” a GoFundMe page said.
A cause of death was not released and will be determined after an investigation by the medical examiner.
“This is not the search outcome that anyone was hoping for,” Tucker said. “Our thoughts are with her family as they begin to cope with this painful loss.”
Beverly is about a 25-mile drive north of Boston.
