On his way home, a Maryland man made a quick stop at a 7-Eleven to buy a lottery ticket for a friend.

As he stared at the lottery vending machine at the Glen Burnie store, one caught his eye: “the pink Millionaire’s Club scratch-off,” Maryland Lottery officials said in a Dec. 19 news release.

The allure of the ticket’s color was enough to convince him to buy the $20 scratch-off ticket, lottery officials said.

Together, the man and his friend scratched the ticket inside their car.

While they were scratching the second row, the pair noticed they matched the winning number 57, which came with a second-tier prize, lottery officials said.

“I saw it was $50,000 and yelled and screamed a little bit,” the lottery player said.

The Anne Arundel County woman told lottery officials she kept her winning ticket locked away in a safe until she could claim her prize. She said she’s unsure of how she will spend her winnings.

This is the game’s first second-tier prize, lottery officials said. Three of five top $1 million prizes remain, as well as five more $50,000 prizes.

Glen Burnie is about a 10-mile drive south from Baltimore.
