Britney Spears declared legally single on 43rd birthday, courts say

Britney Spears has plenty to celebrate on her 43rd birthday.

That’s because the “Toxic” singer was declared legally single by the state of California on Dec. 2, according to court documents obtained by People.

And Dec. 2 just so happens to be the pop star’s birthday.

The news comes seven months after her divorce from Sam Asghari was finalized following nearly nine months of divorce proceedings in Los Angeles.

The former couple started dating in 2016 and were together for six years before tying the knot in a star-studded wedding ceremony in June 2022.

They were married for 13 months before separating in July 2023 following several disagreements.

The divorce, which was filed by Asghari in August 2023, was finalized on May 2.

At the time, a source told People that the divorce was “amicable” and the prenup “was not challenged.”

“Britney is continuing to flex her freedom and is moving on,” the source continued.

Since California gives couples a minimum of six months, known as a “waiting period,” to dismiss the divorce and reconcile, neither Spears nor Asghari were declared legally single until Dec. 2.

Spears has now been married three times and divorced twice, with her first marriage to Jason Alexander being annulled after just 55 hours.

Her and Kevin Federline, who share two kids together, divorced in 2007 after about three years of marriage.

Following her split from Asghari, Spears was rumored to have started a relationship with her landscaper, Paul Soliz, in September 2023, according to TMZ.

That relationship came to a halt in July when Spears declared herself “single” in a since-deleted Instagram caption.

She also claimed that she would “never be with another man” as long as she lives.

Several months later, she took to Instagram to share that she’s married again, but not to a man.

“The day I married myself … Bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever done,” she wrote in the caption.

Aside from being single, Spears is enjoying spending time with her 18-year-old son, Jayden, who she reunited with last month, according to People.

As for Asghari, he has since moved on with his new girlfriend, Brooke Irvine.

The couple was most recently spotted at Gracias Madre in West Hollywood on Nov. 27, according to TMZ.
