Man bursts into woman’s home during fight and shoots her 2-year-old, Michigan cops say
A Michigan man has been charged after authorities said he shot a toddler in the leg during an argument with the boy’s mother.
On Nov. 26 at 5:45 p.m., the 25-year-old Detroit man tried to force his way into the home of a woman with whom he shares a 9-month-old child, according to a news release from the Detroit Police Department.
McClatchy News is not naming the man to protect the identities of the children involved.
Shortly after the incident, officers noticed the man’s vehicle had improper plates, and they attempted to pull him over, the department said.
He fled the scene and returned to the woman’s residence where an argument broke out, according to police.
He forced his way into her home, pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking the woman’s other child, a 2-year-old boy, in the leg, police said.
The toddler was taken to a hospital with non-fatal injuries.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged the man with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, home invasion, feeling and eluding, and five counts of felony firearm, according to authorities.
Records show he was booked at the Wayne County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
