Wife of 49ers’ Trent Williams gives birth to stillborn son after previously losing twin
San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams and his wife, Sondra Williams, have issued a heartbreaking statement at 35 weeks pregnant.
On Nov. 30, Sondra Williams took to her Instagram account to share that their son, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr., was stillborn one week prior.
“It’s been extremely hard trying to process the saddest Hello and Goodbye that I’ve ever had to endure,” she wrote in a caption alongside a video of the baby’s heartbeat and sonogram.
“Last Sunday night on 11/24/24; I welcomed your lifeless 4lb 8oz 18.5 in long little body at 11:38pm,” she added.
The couple were already mourning the death of Trenton’s twin, who died earlier in the pregnancy.
“After losing your twin early in the pregnancy, I prayed and hoped that your diagnosis of Trisomy 13 wasn’t true and wouldn’t be the fate of my long awaited beautiful Son-shine,” she added.
Trisomy 13, also known as Patau syndrome, is a “rare genetic condition when an extra copy of chromosome 13 attaches to a pair of chromosomes,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Symptoms are known to affect how the face, brain and heart develop, and most cases result in a miscarriage or death before the baby’s first birthday.
The news comes just one month after Williams’ teammate, cornerback Charvarius Ward, announced the death of his daughter, who died at 2 years old from heart problems, per ESPN.
It also comes one month after fellow NFL player, Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Hakeem Adeniji, revealed that his first child was stillborn on Nov. 2.
In her emotional post, Sondra Williams said nothing could’ve prepared her for this moment and detailed the struggle of going home without a baby in her arms.
“My firstborn and only son, I’ve always wanted you, but God wanted and needed you more,” she wrote.
“My heart is broken and my arms are empty. But I know you’ll always be near watching over me and your sisters. And for that, my heart smiles with gratitude,” she continued.
Despite the loss, Sondra Williams is thankful for the 35 weeks of bonding she got to share with her “forever son-shine.”
“Although I will never hear your soft coos and cries or see those beautiful little eyes staring up at me, I am grateful to God for the time I shared with you,” she added.
She then detailed the emotional roller coaster she was put through in a series of photos posted to her Instagram Stories.
“At this time last Sunday, I was about to get ready for bed thinking I would meet you the next day,” she wrote alongside a photo of her in a hospital gown.
Her contractions started intensifying later that night, so she decided to “stretch it out with a yoga ball,” she wrote in a separate photo.
The baby was born less than a half hour before midnight.
Sondra Williams shared several photos of the stillborn baby, as well as a photo of his birth certificate.
“Rest peacefully Trenton Jr.,” she wrote under the final photo.
Trent and Sondra Williams have three daughters together, including one who was born in July 2022.
