Toddler found hanging out window while mom was on Hinge date hours away, Texas cops say
A Texas mother was arrested after officials said she left her toddler alone while she went on a date hours away.
Reese Louise Myers was arrested Nov. 5 on charges of abandoning/endangering a child, according to court records and news outlets.
McClatchy News reached out to Myers’ attorney for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.
Killeen police were called to an apartment around 10 a.m. July 28 for reports of a child “hanging out of a broken window” while “an aggressive dog was trying to attack the child,” court records said, according to KIII.
When officers arrived, they found the 16-month-old boy with his head and shoulders hanging out of a first-floor window, KWTX reported. The dog was “charging” at people trying to help the child and seemed to be protective of him.
When officers went inside, they found the toddler with only a shirt on, feces on him and signs of a diaper rash, according to the outlet. Another dog was also at the home, protective of the boy, court records said.
Authorities contacted Myers and she told them she was in San Antonio, two and a half hours away from Killeen, to see a man she met on the dating app Hinge, an affidavit said, according to KSAT.
Myers left the toddler alone overnight, the court records said, according to the news outlet.
Court records said doors inside the apartment had been closed and there was “a baby gate blocking of the kitchen area,” giving the impression that “precautions had been taken to leave the victim alone without a sitter,” KIII reported.
Myers told police she contacted a babysitter on Facebook, but the babysitter told police she hadn’t spoken to Myers since December, KSAT reported.
Killeen is around a 150-mile drive north of San Antonio.
