Winning $164,000 ticket expires soon — but no one has claimed North Carolina prize
A lottery player hit the jackpot — but hasn’t claimed their six-figure prize yet.
Now, the winner has days to cash in before the Nov. 30 deadline, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
“Search everywhere you keep your tickets and double-check any you have to see if you have the winning ticket,” Mark Michalko, lottery CEO, wrote in a news release. “We hope that whomever purchased this ticket comes forward to claim their prize soon so we can celebrate their big win with them.”
Months ago, the lucky player bought a Carolina Cash 5 ticket that matched all the numbers picked in the June 3 drawing. The ticket beat 1-in-962,598 odds to score the game’s top prize of $164,308, officials said.
The ticket was sold at a Circle K convenience store in Southern Pines, near the golfing destination of Pinehurst and a roughly 70-mile drive southwest from Raleigh. The winning drawing numbers: 8-19-21-29-36.
Cash 5 jackpot winners have about six months to cash in. But as of early Nov. 26, no one had come forward to claim the Southern Pines prize, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.
“To claim the prize, the ticket must be presented at lottery headquarters in Raleigh by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2,” officials wrote. “The ticket expires Nov. 30 but since the claim center is closed on Saturday, the winner has until Monday to claim the prize.”
