Adoptive parents accused of torturing and killing their 10-year-old son have been arrested, California deputies say.

Alejandra Marin, 51, and Juan Sanchez Moreno, 59, were arrested on multiple charges, including murder, torture and child abuse in the death of their son, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said in a Nov. 21 news release.

Deputies said they arrived at a Moreno Valley home at about 6:30 p.m. after getting a call about a child in need of medical help Thursday, Nov. 21.

When they arrived, they found a 10-year-old boy in “medical distress,” deputies said.

Paramedics took the boy to a hospital, and hours later his health worsened, according to deputies.

He was pronounced dead, deputies said.

Initial investigations showed “signs of possible neglect and abuse,” deputies said, adding that they arrested both the boy’s adoptive parents.

Deputies said an investigation is ongoing.

Marin and Moreno are being held without bail, jail records show. They are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Moreno Valley is about 65-mile drive southeast from Los Angeles.
