Richard Gere shares why he sold his Connecticut home amid plans to leave the U.S.
Richard Gere’s move to Spain is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The 75-year-old “Pretty Woman” actor sold his New Canaan, Connecticut home nearly two weeks ago, according to property records shared by the New Canaan Advertiser.
The six-bedroom, 11-bathroom, 32-acre property, which was built in 1938 and also features a pool, multiple gardens and a three-bedroom cottage, sold for $10.75 million, the outlet reported.
Gere initially bought the home in 2022 with his wife, Alejandra Silva, for $10.8 million.
That $50,000 loss was nothing compared to what singer-songwriters Paul Simon and Edie Brickell lost when they sold it to Gere two years ago.
The couple initially bought the home in April 2002 for $16.5 million.
The new owner of the home is listed as Brookwood Hills LLC, registered to James Hoffman of SBP Homes, according to state business records viewed by the New Canaan Advertiser.
The company already owns more than 75 properties across the country, according to their website.
For Gere, selling the home meant putting his previous plans of turning the home into a farm on hold.
Those plans were revealed in 2023 when Gere and his representative, David Rucci, attended a local Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
The farm would’ve taken up 27 of the home’s 32 acres and would’ve focused on mushrooms and honey, with the potential of adding goats in the future.
At the time, the Gere family owned seven goats that they considered pets. Those goats were housed at their property in North Salem, New York, which was still owned by Gere as of April 2024.
As for why Gere and Silva are selling their Connecticut home, the former “Sexiest Man Alive” revealed plans to move to Spain earlier this year in an effort to be closer to Silva’s family.
“She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers,” Gere said in an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair Spain in April.
He went on to describe the move as a “great adventure” for him and Silva, who will be joined by their two children, Alexander, 5, and James, 4.
“It is a beautiful place, the food is extraordinary and the people exude sensitivity and generosity, as well as a strong will to laugh and enjoy,” he said of Spain, adding that he looks forward to moving day.
Gere and Silva first met in Positano, Italy in 2014, according to People. They tied the knot in 2018 and started growing their family later that year.
Gere is also a father to a son, Homer Gere, whom he welcomed in 2000 with ex-wife Carey Lowell. Silva has an 11-year-old son, Albert, whom she welcomed with ex-husband Govind Friedland.
