Bear stands on hind legs and wheels away home’s trash can to enjoy. See the video
An Alabama couple captured an unusual sight on their home security camera.
The video — shared in an Oct. 27 Facebook post by Bryce and Breanna Hoven — shows a black bear popping up on its hind legs, carefully wrapping its paws around a trash can and rolling it away in a human-like fashion.
“I just was in shock more than anything (at) how human-like that bear was in the video,” Breanna Hoven told McClatchy News. “He was looking side to side, paused to take a break and continued walking it out backwards.”
Hoven said her husband checked their security camera after finding their trash had been taken out of their carport and rolled to the end of their driveway.
“You are not gonna believe this,” he said, laughing.
“My mouth instantly dropped,” Hoven said. “My response was that there was no way that wasn’t a human dressed up.”
Although, black bear sightings are common in the Hovens’ neighborhood in Saraland — about a 12-mile drive north from Mobile — she said she’s never seen anything like this before.
Hoven said bears usually just knock the trash can down and dig through it, leaving trash around for them to clean up later.
They’ve even tried to be creative about ways to stop the bears’ thieving attempts, like setting up alarms and barricades, she said.
The bear came back the following night around the same time, but wasn’t as successful, Hoven said. After tripping and spilling the garbage, Hoven’s husband woke up and went to scare the bear away.
“I can’t blame the bears for wandering out and about,” Hoven said.
