‘Really fat’ bear in Colorado that gained national attention ‘is STILL eating.’ See it
Everyone’s favorite “really fat” bear is still on the hunt for food in Colorado, video shows.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Southwest Region shared a photo and videos of the enormous bear gorging himself on Oct. 18, dubbing him a “thicc boi” and wondering “how much more this black bear thinks he needs to eat before finding a den this year,” McClatchy News previously reported.
Throughout the fall, black bears eat thousands of calories per day to bulk up for hibernation, usually starting in November when the food supply dwindles, McClatchy reported.
“Been a week since we posted this incredibly rotund bear from Durango,” the agency said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Genuinely LOVE everyone’s responses and interactions with this post that has gained national attention. Well, we’ve got an update. Your favorite thicc boi is STILL eating.”
Video submitted by a resident shows the giant bear foraging along a home’s fence in the blaring light of the camera. The bear seems to notice the light but turns around and keeps eating until the person filming shines it directly at him.
Then the bear turns around and waddles — very slowly — off into the street.
“He’s got no shame. We are here for it,” the agency said. “You only get so many winters to sleep through. No need to leave a calorie on the field. Unless it’s trash.”
A second video shows the bear facing the other way and chowing down on foliage lining the fence as he periodically glances back toward the camera.
“He’s like us on office BBQ day,” the agency said. “Looking around to see if anyone noticed we already had a burger and brat before we reload the plate.”
Some in the comments defended the bear’s huge appetite.
“He gotta last all winter let him live,” someone said.
Others praised him.
“You don’t get that big by being a quitter!” someone said.
“He’s just SO FAT! Love it!” another person said. “What a great king.”
Durango is about a 300-mile drive southwest from Colorado Springs.
