Powerball player wins $478 million jackpot in Georgia. Where was the lucky ticket sold?
A Georgia lottery player tried their luck playing Powerball — and hit the jackpot.
A single ticket sold in the Peach State matched five numbers and the Powerball to win the estimated $478.2 million prize in the drawing Wednesday, Oct. 23, results show.
The grand prize has a cash value of $230 million, per the Powerball website.
The winning ticket was sold at a Quick Mart in Buford, the Georgia Lottery said. The lucky winner can choose a yearly prize dividing up the $478.2 million, or receive a one-time, lump sum payment of $230.6 million.
“We are thrilled to congratulate Georgia’s newest Powerball jackpot winner, who happens to be the largest winner in our state’s history,” Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin said in a statement.
“With every Powerball ticket sold in Georgia supporting HOPE and Pre-K, Georgia’s students are also big winners,” Corbin said.
The winning numbers Wednesday were 2, 15, 27, 29, 39 and red Powerball 20, according to the lottery game’s website. The Power Play multiplier option was 2x.
There were two $1 million winners in Texas and Pennsylvania, results show.
The Powerball jackpot hasn’t been won since Aug. 19 when someone in California matched all six numbers to win a $44.3 million windfall, according to the lottery.
The next Powerball drawing is Oct. 26 with the starting estimated $20 million jackpot.
Buford is about a 40-mile drive northeast from downtown Atlanta.
