Angler found dead after he falls from boat, vanishes on swim to shore, Oregon cops say
A 64-year-old man fishing on an Oregon lake was found dead after he fell out of a boat and vanished swimming to shore, sheriff’s officials reported.
Kent Christopher was fishing with a family member on Little Cultus Lake when they both lost their balance and fell off their boat on Oct. 7, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said in an Oct. 11 news release.
After they were unable to get back in the boat, the two swam for shore but became separated, deputies said.
The family member reached the shore and hiked several hours back to their campsite to find Christopher had not arrived, deputies said.
The family member drove out to reach cell phone service and notified authorities at 7:35 p.m., deputies said.
When deputies arrived at 8:10 p.m., they searched along the shore and with a drone, officials said. The drone found Christopher’s body in the lake at 9:24 p.m.
His body was recovered that night, deputies said.
Little Cultus Lake is about a 215-mile drive southeast from Portland.
