Estranged husband shoots wife’s new boyfriend after picking up child, WA cops say
An estranged 40-year-old husband shot his wife’s new boyfriend in the abdomen, Washington deputies said.
The 31-year-old woman dropped her 8-year-old son off with his father at about 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12 near the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
She had dropped her 21-year-old boyfriend at the fairgrounds before meeting with the child’s dad, deputies said.
Once the woman met up with her boyfriend, her estranged husband drove by and shot at the couple, deputies said.
They tried to drive off, but the husband followed and shot at their vehicle, deputies said.
At one point, he made a U-turn and slammed into their vehicle head-on, deputies said.
The two men got out of their vehicles and started yelling at each other, and then the husband pulled out his .22 caliber handgun and shot the boyfriend in the abdomen, deputies said.
Deputies said the gun got “kicked out of the way” during their fight, so a witness guarded it from the men, deputies said.
The two men fought in a ditch until authorities got to the scene and saw the boyfriend holding the husband in a headlock, deputies said.
The boyfriend was airlifted to a hospital, and the husband was taken to a medical center for a “blow to the head.” He was then taken to jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and drive-by shooting. He’s being held without a bail.
Authorities said the woman and her child were not injured.
