Man uses potato as silencer and shoots two men dead over dice game, Michigan cops say
A man angry that he lost money in a dice game shot two people to death, a Michigan sheriff said.
Authorities were called to an apartment in Pontiac on Oct. 8 after reports of gunshots, according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
“Upon their arrival, deputies found two men who had been shot multiple times,” the release said.
The shooting suspect, who was not identified, was a 32-year-old Detroit man who was upset after losing $80 in a dice game, authorities said.
The man was drunk and playing dice with several other people into the morning of Oct. 8, WXYZ reported. He left and came back around 8 a.m. and shot the two men, the outlet said.
The man used a potato to try and silence the gun, but witnesses heard the gunshots, the sheriff said. After the shooting, the man got into an Uber and left.
The two men who were killed were identified as 20-year-old Sidney Ward III and 24-year-old Tyrone Davis Glenn Jr.
“Ward was pronounced dead at the scene and Glenn was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Only a monster would do something like that. To kill two people, even if it was animosity, anger or... y’all coulda hashed that out. It was no reason to take two lives,” Glenn’s cousin, Markeela Jacob, told WXYZ.
Detectives found the man just after 8 p.m. walking on a sidewalk and arrested him. Further information was not available.
Pontiac is a 30-mile drive north of Detroit.
