A Mississippi police officer faces a drug charge after passing out in his patrol car with a meth pipe in his hand, authorities said.

James Jackson was arrested after the Oct. 5 incident, according to the Yazoo City Police Department. A news station reported that Jackson is an officer in nearby Belzoni, about a 30-mile drive northwest from Yazoo City.

McClatchy News reached out to the Belzoni Police Department for comment Oct. 9 and was awaiting a response.

Marijuana and alcohol were also found in Jackson’s vehicle, according to police. Authorities said he refused a breathalyzer test.

Jackson was charged with possession of paraphernalia and DUI refusal, the police department said. He was taken to jail and later released on bond.

Police didn’t release additional details but said the investigation is ongoing.

Yazoo City is about a 50-mile drive northwest from downtown Jackson.
