It was early morning at a service station in Tennessee when a group of drivers standing near a truck with several flat tires told deputies they also had deflated tires.

According to a Sept. 27 Madison County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies arrived around 8 a.m. on Sept. 26 at a TA Travel Center in western Madison County, about a 70-mile drive northeast of Memphis.

Deputies said one of the drivers told them they had a tire fall off the wheel while trying to leave the truck station. The driver then found eight other tires on the vehicle punctured, according to the release.

One truck had all 18 tires deflated, each tire displaying similar puncture marks characterized by “a slightly elongated shape and circular impact mark around theme,” authorities said.

According to the sheriff’s office, eight semi-trucks from different trucking agencies were vandalized with a total of 56 tires exhibiting several of these small puncture marks on the outer sidewalls.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the release.

Authorities estimate that each tire is worth approximately $500, resulting in a $28,000 collective loss for the drivers at the truck stop.
