Prior to the broadcasting of the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sept. 15, it was announced that Dick Van Dyke would be in attendance.

Van Dyke was expected to present an award, but it was evident following the conclusion of the red carpet walk that the legendary actor never showed, E! News reported.

It remains unclear why the 98-year-old didn’t attend the award show.

He did however attend the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sept. 7, where he watched the producers of the “Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic” special for his 98th birthday win an award.

In an interview with People earlier this year, Van Dyke revealed that he hopes to share the story of his nearly 80 years in show business via a one-man show.

“I was thinking of doing — 80 years in the business, I have a lot of stories to tell. I thought I’d just do a one-man show, like this,” he said. “Just sit and talk to the audience.”

Later, while talking with reporters following the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Van Dyke shared that he hoped to be remembered “for laughter,” People reported. “I hope for making people laugh for 75 years,” he said.

His longevity continues to persist. In June, Van Dyke became the oldest DayTime Emmy winner, capturing an award for his guest role as Timothy Robicheaux on “Days of Our Lives.”

As the actor admitted, it was a first for him.

“This is a very different honor for me,” he said. “I seldom get recognized for dramatic or straight acting — comedy and musicals are my specialty after all. I’m so honored and it will be a fun night celebrating with the entire daytime television community.”

Van Dyke’s team has not yet shared a statement regarding his absence from the Emmy Awards.
