Kate Gosselin’s attorney says she never did anything to ‘intentionally harm’ her son
Richard Puleo, Kate Gosselin’s attorney, is speaking out after Kate’s son Collin made several claims about her in a new interview.
The statement comes after Collin sat down with The Sun and said Kate “had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement. She had a room put up with cameras in it, a tiny window in the corner and it was bolt-locked from the outside. It was like a containment room, literally, and it had a mattress on the floor and that’s how I lived.”
This is far from the first time Collin had made similar claims about growing up in Kate’s house.
In 2016, Kate shared publicly that Collin was placed in a “program away from home” and receiving the help he needed.
“This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time,” Kate told People at the time, “and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own. I’ve felt very alone in this. By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him – our entire family has been impacted.”
Kate told People that Collin was “enrolled in a program that is helping him learn the skills he needs to be the best him he can be. We miss him so much, so it’s been hard because there is a huge hole in our family without him here. But it comforts us to know he’s where he needs to be right now, and I can feel good about that.”
Then in August 2024, Collin told Entertainment Tonight that being removed from the home he shared with his mom and 7 siblings “was the most scared I’ve probably ever been in my life.”
In response to his interview with The Sun, Kate’s lawyer told The Sun that he doesn’t believe Kate had done anything to “intentionally harm” Collin. He said “she did what she did to protect herself and her family,” calling Collin’s behavior at the time “troubled.”
“She never wants to comment because she always knows that this gets taken out of context,” Puleo later told Fox News Digital. “She doesn’t want to comment. Doesn’t need to. The record speaks for itself.”
“The facts belie the truth,” Puleo continued. “Whatever took place, the ones that are truthful are the ones that took place… She has no comment because it’s not going to change the past. And I don’t believe she intentionally harmed any of her children in any way, shape or form.”
After sharing his interview on Instagram, Collin thanked his dad Jon Gosselin “for fighting so hard to obtain custody of me, and saving me from the institution where I was wrongfully committed.”
