Hearts break for Mariah Carey who confirmed her mom and sister died on the same day
In an exclusive interview with People, Mariah Carey is opening up about the devastation she endured after both her mom and her sister died on the same day.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” she told People in a statement.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey continued. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Little details are currently known about Patricia and Alison’s deaths.
Carey has been open in the past about her difficult relationship with her mom. “Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment,” Carey wrote in her 2020 memoir, People reports.
“A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”
She ultimately dedicated her memoir to her mom, writing, “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”
Patricia was a trained opera singer and a well-known vocal coach. Despite their complicated relationship, Mariah and Patricia have performed together in the past.
You may recall their performance during the ABC Christmas Special in 2010.
It’s unclear what Carey’s relationship with her sister was at the time of Alison’s death. In her book, she admitted she was, at that time, no contact with her siblings.
