Days before the beginning of the fall semester at Carnegie Mellon University, a student says she fought off a naked man who broke into her off-campus apartment, according to police in Pennsylvania.

The Pittsburgh Police Department is now investigating the incident, which authorities said occurred Tuesday, Aug. 20, at an apartment near the college campus.

The student was lying on her bed at 10 p.m. when she saw a naked man standing in her room, according to Pittsburgh police and campus law enforcement.

Police said the man was armed with a small knife. He instructed the victim “to not say anything and he wouldn’t hurt her,” according to investigating authorities.

The man tried sexually assaulting the woman, who fought him off and fled to a bathroom, police said. She then locked the door and called 911.

Campus police said the man fled the apartment. He has not been captured as of Aug. 22.

The woman did not suffer any physical injuries, police said. She described the intruder as “heavy set” with short dark hair and around 30 years old.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pittsburgh police at 412-422-6520.
