Women hear screams for help in park, use rock to stop man assaulting victim, cops say
Ohio police are commending three Good Samaritans for intervening and stopping a sexual assault.
Officers responded shortly before 9:30 a.m. Aug. 12 to a 911 call about a woman screaming for help at a Summit Metro Park, according to a news release from the Akron Police Department.
The victim, a 33-year-old woman, told officers she was coming out of the bathroom when the suspect “grabbed her from behind and began assaulting her,” police said.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Issac Armour of Akron.
Three women, all between the ages of 64 and 67, heard the victim screaming and rushed to her aid, police said.
One of the women struck Armour in the head with a rock and together they were able to pull the victim away from him, according to authorities.
Armour was arrested and later charged with gross sexual imposition, unlawful restraint, and assault, according to police.
Attorney information for Armour was not available.
According to a statement from Summit Metro Parks shared with WEWS, the attack occurred at the Valley View Area of Cascade Valley Metro Park.
“We understand incidents like this are unsettling. At Summit Metro Parks, our top priority is visitor safety. As always, park visitors are encouraged to remain aware of surroundings and follow the guidance of ‘see something, say something’ when in the parks,” the statement said.
