An early term fetus was found dead in a dumpster at a Georgia Walmart, deputies told news outlets.

Authorities were called just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, to the store on Steiner Way in Grovetown, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report obtained by McClatchy News.

WellStar MCG Health officials contacted deputies about a patient who had recently given birth and left the fetus in one of the dumpster bins, leading to the grim discovery, according to WRDW.

“Deputies began searching in all of the trash cans on the premises,” the incident report read. Soon after, a deputy spotted what looked like “a deceased fetus in a brown bag, wrapped in a white cloth.”

The remains were taken for an autopsy, WRDW reported.

Officials know the identity of the mother and plan to speak with her, according to WJBF. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday, July 24, deputies said.

Additional information wasn’t immediately available.

Grovetown is about a 10-mile drive southwest from Augusta.
