Powerball player just misses $55 million jackpot — but still wins big in Georgia
Someone in Georgia won $50,000 playing Powerball, narrowly missing the $55 million jackpot.
The lucky winner matched four of five numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, July 13, according to the Georgia Lottery.
It’s not clear where the winning ticket was sold.
McClatchy News reached out to Georgia Lottery officials on July 15 and was awaiting a response.
The winning numbers were 9, 55, 59, 66, 69 and red Powerball 21, according to the lottery game’s website. The Power Play option was 2X.
Someone in Illinois won $2 million, although no one took home the grand prize, results show.
The next Powerball drawing is July 15 with an estimated $64 million jackpot.
What to know about Powerball
To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
