An adoptable dog is showing off his smile after spending most of his life chained outside.

Chino is a well-behaved canine who’s waiting to join a loving family at Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society in Utica, New York, about a 95-mile drive northwest from Albany, according to the shelter.

The 7-year-old dog arrived at the shelter “tied to the back of a pickup truck, frantically trying to get out of the bed,” the organization wrote July 12 on Facebook.

Although he spent the majority of his years on a chain without much interaction, the shelter said Chino is “doing extremely well socializing” and is a “staff favorite.”

“Look at the smile on Chino now,” the shelter’s Facebook post said.

Chino is able to go out for walks on a leash and has had no problems when meeting other people, according to the shelter.

The shelter believes he would fit well with female dogs because he’s “a little dog-selective” and “likes to flirt through the fence with some of our female dogs here at the shelter,” the shelter said.

Chino is neutered, up to date on vaccines, has a microchip and is available for adoption through the shelter’s online application process. Applicants must be at least 21, according to the shelter’s site.

“We think Chino is such an amazing dog and deserves to finally experience all that a loving home has to offer,” the shelter said.

The Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society is a no-kill shelter for at-risk animals that have been surrendered, lost, neglected or abandoned in Oneida County, according to the organization’s website.

Dozens of animals, including Chino, are at the shelter and ready for adoption.
