Dog who ‘loves everyone he meets’ finally gets his happy ending — after 945 days
A sweet dog who was overlooked for almost three years finally has a place to call his own thanks to some extremely kind humans and an abundance of pure patience.
Meet Taz, the pit mix who waited a long time at the Pennsylvania SPCA while people came and went with those in kennels surrounding him.
“Taz first came to us on November 30, 2021,” Gillian Kocher, with the Pennsylvania SPCA, told McClatchy News.
“He arrived from the Philadelphia’s (nonprofit open) intake shelter, ACCT Philly, where he was at risk of being euthanized,” she said. “He had a rectal prolapse and needed immediate surgery. Our team performed the surgery, and Taz recovered. We thought for sure he’d get scooped up immediately, but that just didn’t happen.”
Taz went to a foster home in July 2023, and despite adorable Facebook photos and cute posts about meeting the gentleman, he still didn’t have any takers.
“If every dog has its day, when will it finally be Taz’s?” one post dated Jan. 22 asked. “It’s been over two years and he is still waiting, for a reason that is unbeknownst to us.”
“Apart from being strikingly handsome, Taz loves everyone he meets, is eager to learn, is family-friendly, and open to meeting other dogs. How much longer will Taz have to wait for his forever?”
Taz did love his foster home, it appears, and while he was happy and felt the warm sunbeams of love, he still needed a permanent place.
“Hello... is it Taz you’re looking for?” one June 17 Facebook post said. “If not, it should be!”
”This perfect pup is STILL waiting for a home for reasons unbeknownst to us! He is often described as ‘all that and more.’ Taz currently lives with a cat, a dog, and children, and gets along with them all. He is playful, snuggly, smart, and adventurous. And with these looks, how could he not steal your heart?”
Finally, after 945 days, the shelter posted the news everyone was waiting to hear — the boop-able boy now has his forever home and family.
“We couldn’t have done this without our staff and volunteers caring for him while he was in shelter, AND we are especially thankful to his foster family who loved him for so long,” a July 8 post said. “This sweet boy is more than deserving of a happy ending, and he wouldn’t have gotten it without the support of so many.”
Sadly, some animals within the shelter system have to wait a long time for a residence and family to love on them.
“It just goes to show the times we are in regarding shelter dogs, they are waiting longer and longer for adoption,” Kocher said to McClatchy News.
