Player ‘brought to tears’ after waking from nap to discover big Maryland lottery win
“The stars aligned” for a Maryland man when his big lottery win came at “the perfect time.”
The Baltimore man, who has played lottery games for more than 15 years, has used the same number, 80000, on his Pick 5 tickets “for as long as he can remember,” Maryland Lottery officials said in a June 3 news release.
After waking for a nap, lottery officials said the man checked his $1 ticket for the the May 20 midday drawing.
He was shocked to see his faithful number had finally earned him $50,000.
“Overcome with emotion,” lottery officials said the man’s prize “brought him to tears.”
“Times are hard for most people these days,” the man told lottery officials. “I have a little relief now.”
After bills, the man told lottery officials he plans to use some of his winnings to buy his mother and sister “something nice because they’ve always supported him.”
