Powerball player just misses $131 million jackpot in New York — but still wins big
A Powerball ticket sold in New York won $1 million and narrowly missed the $131 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Monday, May 27, the New York Lottery said.
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $143 million, with a cash value of $66.8 million, for the next drawing Wednesday, May 29, according to the national Powerball site.
The winning numbers were 9, 30, 39, 49 and 59, with a Powerball of 21.
The $1 million ticket was sold at a liquor store in St. James in Suffolk County, which is about a 60-mile drive northeast of New York City.
More than 21,000 other Powerball tickets sold in New York also won prizes ranging from $4 to $500, the state lottery said.
