A couple is facing murder charges after Alabama police said they found a man dead under his house.

On May 8, Dothan police officers conducted a welfare check at the home of 54-year-old Patrick Parrish after loved ones hadn’t heard from in an “unusual” amount of time, the Dothan Police Department said in a May 17 news release.

No one answered the door, and his pickup truck was missing from his home, police said.

Officers said they noticed a “foul odor,” then found Parrish’s body under the home.

“The positioning of the body was indicative of foul play, and investigators were called to the scene,” police said.

Officials determined the manner of death was homicide. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences is working to determine the cause of death.

Investigators said Parrish was last seen with the couple, 33-year-old Courtney Ingram and 31-year-old Richard Bishop Jr.

The pair was seen leaving in Parrish’s missing truck, which was found days later in Eufaula, about a 50-mile drive northeast from Dothan, officers said.

A manhunt began for the couple, who police said should be considered “armed and dangerous.” They were each accused of capital murder.

On May 18, 10 days after Parrish was found dead, Eufaula police said they arrested the couple and turned them over to Dothan police.

Neither Ingram nor Bishop had attorney information listed in Houston County jail records.

Parrish’s family remembers him as a passionate handyman and mechanic, whose legacy continues on in his four grandchildren.

“His ability to fix what was broken extended beyond the tangible; he mended hearts with his kindness, lifted spirits with his humor, and strengthened bonds with his loyalty,” Parrish’s family wrote in his obituary.

They described him as “a cornerstone of the community.”

Dothan and Eufaula are in southeast Alabama.
