Man sets trailer on fire, flees into mountains — and ends up lost in cold, WA cops say
A man set a camping trailer on fire, then ran into the mountains in Washington, deputies said.
He ended up calling for help after getting lost.
Deputies responded to a report of a fire at 3:39 p.m. April 16 in Wenatchee, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The 47-year-old man was reported as the person who set the trailer on fire, deputies said.
Authorities said they used a helicopter and drone to search for the man, but they couldn’t find him.
Hours later they received a call from him at about 9:30 p.m., deputies said.
He had run into the wilderness and gotten lost, then became cold as night fell, authorities said.
Deputies said they found him on a deck at a construction site.
He was given medical attention, then “warmth and shelter at the Chelan County Jail” on charges of first-degree arson and violation of a no-contact order, deputies said.
Wenatchee is in central Washington, about a 150-mile drive east from Seattle.
