Two players just miss $1.13 billion Powerball prize — but still win big in California
Two Powerball tickets sold in California won $1.6 million each, but the players narrowly missed out on the $1.13 billion jackpot, lottery officials said.
The tickets matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, April 3, the California Lottery said.
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $1.23 billion, with a cash value of approximately $595 million, for the next drawing Saturday, April 6, the national Powerball site said.
The winning numbers were 11, 38, 41, 62 and 65, with a Powerball of 15.
The winning California tickets were sold at a supermarket in San Dimas and a bottle shop in Oxnard, both in Southern California, lottery officials said.
More than 432,000 other Powerball tickets sold in California also won prizes ranging from $4 to nearly $20,000 in the drawing, the lottery said. California adjusts prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.
Tickets sold in Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, South Carolina and Washington also matched five numbers but not the Powerball to win $1 million.
