Two Mega Millions players just miss $1 billion jackpot — but still win big in Georgia
Two Mega Millions players won big in Georgia, despite missing the $1.13 billion jackpot.
Each matched five white balls to win a $1 million prize in the drawing Tuesday, March 26, according to Georgia Lottery officials and the national Mega Millions site.
The lucky tickets were purchased from:
RaceTrac #0328 in Marietta
Newnan Food Mart in Newnan
The winning Mega Millions numbers drawn Tuesday were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and gold Mega Ball 4, according to the lottery game’s website. The Megaplier was 2x.
A single ticket sold in New Jersey took the top prize of $1.13 billion, ending more than four months of rolling jackpots. It marks the first Mega Millions jackpot win of 2024, according to the game’s website.
“It is the fifth largest jackpot in the history of the game, although because jackpots are always based on actual sales, the official jackpot amount will be determined after sales from all 47 participating jurisdictions are finalized on Wednesday morning,” Mega Millions officials said.
Mega Millions tickets sold in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York and Ohio also matched five white numbers to win $1 million. Someone in New York won $2 million after matching five white numbers, plus the Megaplier.
The next Mega Millions drawing is Friday, March 29, with a $20 million jackpot.
What to know about Mega Millions
To score a jackpot in the Mega Millions, a player must match all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball. Players in participating states “can increase non-jackpot prize winnings by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times” by purchasing the Megaplier option for an additional $1.
The odds of scoring a jackpot prize are 1 in 302,575,350.
Tickets cost $2 and can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times vary by state.
Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
