Heart-stopping home inspired by monastery lists in California — just don’t look down
An estate that will make people catch their breath has landed on the real estate market in scenic Big Sur, California.
Folks with a fear of heights probably shouldn’t look down at the crashing waves directly below.
The residence is named “Taktsang Big Sur,” and the two-bedroom, two-bathroom home is listed for $25 million.
“Originally inspired by a monastery high in the Himalayas of Bhutan, and later extensively remodeled by Big Sur architect Mickey Muennig, this home of glass, stone, wood and concrete on 9.5 acres is perfectly sited for continuous jaw dropping views both up and down Big Sur’s most dramatic and beautiful stretch of coastline,” the listing on Coldwell Banker Homes describes.
The monastery referred to is Paro Taktsang, a Buddist temple also nestled on a soaring cliffside, Mansion Global reported. But these views of the Pacific blue are like no other.
“This home’s views are considered the best by many because of the positioning,” listing agent Mike Gilson told Mansion Global. “You are close enough to the ocean to hear the soothing sounds and also high enough to have spectacular views up and down the coast.”
The views aren’t the only thing that’s eye-catching; there are other features, including:
Heated floor
Great room
Stone fireplace
Glass ceiling
Balcony area
A new owner can also “design a potential second residence” on the separate parcel nearby.
Big Sur is about 100 miles south of San Jose.
