Grandmother of 12 jokes with husband about winning lottery — then she actually won
A 70-year-old woman in Maryland joked with her husband about winning the lottery before doing just that, officials said.
The grandma of 12 claimed the new Ravens X5 scratch off top prize of $100,000 after deciding to play the game in Hagerstown, according to an Aug. 29 news release from the Maryland Lottery.
“Something told me to go play the machine,” she told lottery officials.
The mom of five plays the lottery often, winning $100 to $500 at times, and thought the name of the new game was intriguing as she’s a Baltimore Ravens fan, officials said.
The woman, from Washington County, bought four of the Ravens X5 tickets and scratched them at home, the release said. After scratching the first ticket she realized she’d won $100,000.
The woman plans to share some of her earnings with her family, the release said.
Hagerstown is about 80 miles northwest of Baltimore.
