A South Carolina man has a longtime routine of playing the lottery — and it paid off big time.

Now the man — who for the past two years has kicked off his mornings by going out to grab coffee and a lottery ticket — isn’t switching up his routine “anytime soon,” the S.C. Education Lottery said in an Aug. 7 news release and in an email to McClatchy News.

“I’m going to stick to it, because I don’t spend too much and it’s something I enjoy,” the man told lottery officials after scoring a six-figure prize.

The winner got richer after he stopped at a KC Mart convenience store in the Spartanburg area and spent $10 on a ticket for the 100X scratch-off ticket game.

The man was back home in his kitchen when he discovered his ticket beat 1-in-a-million odds to win the game’s top prize of $300,000.

“When I saw it, my brain thought I was misreading it,” the man told the S.C. Education Lottery. “You hope to win, but don’t expect it.”

Lottery officials in their news release didn’t reveal the winner’s name. The man, who kept $205,500 after taxes, bought his lucky ticket in Boiling Springs, roughly 8 miles north of Spartanburg.

It’s not the first time a lottery winner has planned to stick to his routine. After hitting the jackpot, one North Carolina man said he would continue visiting the same hamburger joint, McClatchy News reported in July.
