A 14-year-old boy was spray-painting graffiti when he was struck and killed by a monorail in Washington, police said.

The teen was found at about 9 p.m. Sunday, July 30, in the South Lake Union neighborhood, the Seattle Police Department said in a news release.

Police said they reviewed surveillance footage that captured the teen climbing onto a building near Seattle Center Monorail tracks.

He spray-painted the wall with graffiti and then was struck by the monorail, police said.

Rescuers found the boy unresponsive and started “life-saving measures,” but he died from his injuries, police said.

The rail line was out of service until 7:30 a.m. Monday, July 31, according to a tweet from Seattle Monorail.
