A trapped donkey became “exhausted” after spending a day trying to escape from a steep creek in Oregon, rescuers said.

Rescuers reached the worn out animal at about 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, Portland Fire and Rescue said on Twitter.

The white donkey had been struggling to free itself from the creek since about 7 a.m., rescuers said.

Firefighters wrapped a fire hose around its front legs and then attached a rope to it to help the animal up, photos show.

The donkey eventually stood up, and rescuers helped it to a “safe location,” fire officials said.
