Listed ‘Hippie House’ in Oregon is funky on outside — and equally so on inside. See it
A unique house that looks like it’s all twisted up has landed on the real estate market in Gleneden Beach, Oregon, for $799,000.
And — no joke — it has a highly funky look, in the best way possible.
“’’The Hippie House’ in Salishan. This free form design is what makes Salishan one of the area’s leading get-a-ways on the Oregon Coast! Designed by owner & featured in ‘National Geographic’ 1979 issue, this one-of-a kind home features original wood interior, slate rock and wood floors & pebble floor shower,” the listing on Realtor.com says.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom oceanside residence has a very interesting interior across 1,440 square feet.
Features, per the listing, include:
Gas stove
“Sunken living area”
Slanted walls
“Crazy unique cubbies”
Interior ladders
“Unique furniture items” stay
The house nabbed the attention of Friday Night Zillow, a popular Twitter segment run by Bloomberg journalist Steven Dennis that highlights interesting homes for sale around the globe.
“This funky beach house has my brain afire and wanting to reach for my checkbook. Just $799K,” Dennis said on Twitter. “Oregon. Featured in National Geographic long ago. It’s art!”
“Not sure how you put most furniture - like a bed or desk or bureau - in either of these houses that don’t have many walls at right angles. Or how a tall person stands near a wall with all the slanted roof lines,” another person wondered.
“I could live here. It’s right on the beach! But it’s probably pretty cold in the winter - thank goodness for the sauna,” someone tweeted.
“I’ve been online fantasy retirement home shopping all over the coast of Oregon and Washington and I saw that one!! Love it!” one person said.
“Beautiful but it hurts my brain,” another complimented.
Gleneden Beach is about 105 miles southwest of Portland.
