‘Very nostalgic’ or ‘sensory overload’? See why California house for sale is divisive
Have you heard?
Wallpaper is back in style when it comes to interior decorating — at least, when it comes to stylizing your home while on a budget with chic, modern patterns. Well, one house on the real estate market in Kensington, California, has taken that step and aimed for a more retro look.
All over the house.
“A diamond in the rough, this is the rare home on the market without staging or updating, a virtual time capsule ready for whatever changes you may desire,” the listing says on Zillow.com.
And what a time capsule it is.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom home — listed for $899,000 — is a technicolor throwback of primary colors, wood paneling, curious light fixtures, and so much more spread across 1,448 square feet.
“It has partial Bay views and has been lavishly decorated with extravagant wallpaper, decorative rock, stunning chandeliers, and interesting cabinets,” the listing describes. “There is an attached 2-car garage and a private rear garden.”
The home caught the eye of Zillow Gone Wild, a Facebook page that highlights unique houses for sale all over the country.
Fans were impressed.
“I wish houses were built like this still instead of the generic cookie cutter we see,” one person said.
“I love this. A lot,” another gushed.
“I love how quirky it is. Some updates are badly needed, of course, but I have a thing for wood paneling,” someone commented.
“I like this, but I was brought up in a late ‘50’s house with paneling in some rooms!” one person recalled. “My parents also had a foldable door like in that one room between their kitchen and dining room. Oh, my the memories!”
“The WILDEST thing about this house is how IMMACULATELY it has been maintained,” someone pointed out.
“The decor and appliances bring back memories of when I was a child. Very retro!” another observed.
“I feel like I would definitely trip going up those stairs when I’m drunk with that red wallpaper’s busy pattern! Sensory overload!” one person said.
“I love that it’s not updated. Very nostalgic. It’s awesome!” another commented.
Kensington is about 20 miles northeast of San Francisco.
