An 11-year-old selling lemonade escaped from a stranger trying to kidnap them in Washington, police said.

The child had set up a lemonade stand outside their apartment Tuesday, May 23, the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release.

At about 7 p.m., a 35-year-old man walked up to the child’s stand and started talking to them, police said. He then tried to pick up the child, according to police.

The child struggled out of the man’s grasp and ran off, police said.

Police found the man nearby and arrested him on an attempted kidnapping charge.
