Motorcyclist swerves to miss squirrel, but it led to his death, Pennsylvania cops say

A 58-year-old man was driving a motorcycle when he swerved off the road and hit a utility pole, authorities in Pennsylvania said.

The motorcyclist reported he had “made an evasive maneuver to avoid striking a squirrel,” according to the Northern York County Regional Police Department news release on Facebook.

Officers responded to the crash in Dover Township at about 11:15 a.m. May 6. The man, identified as Jeff Letcavage, was rushed to a hospital with “extensive injuries.”

Letcavage died of his injuries at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, authorities said.

The Northern York County Regional Police Department is continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
